Laura J. Treat & Julie Judkins
Laura J. Treat is the moving image preservation librarian at the University of North Texas where she oversees the preservation and digitization of the libraries' moving image collections. She received her MSIS from the University of Texas at Austin, where her research focused on the scholarly use of home movie collections. She is currently the chair of the Regional Audiovisual Archives and News, Documentary, and Television Committees for the Association of Moving Image Archivists. Her research focuses on the users of archival moving images and user-driven description of television news collections.
Julie Judkins is the Assistant Head of Special Collections at the University of North Texas Libraries where she oversees all archival processing, coordinates instruction, and works with filmmakers to locate and license footage from a large television news collection for use in documentary projects. Since 2015, she has taught “Archival Arrangement and Description” as an adjunct faculty member for the University of North Texas College of Information. Her research interests include methods for effective primary source instruction, book illustration techniques, and lowering barriers between archives and the communities they serve. She earned her MSI from the University of Michigan.
