Elena Clariza
Elena M. Clariza grew up in the Philippines and California and found her passion for social justice in both places. Clariza is a lifelong Philippine Studies scholar and currently the Philippine Studies Librarian at the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa. She was a community organizer for immigrant rights and environmental justice in California before coming to Hawai'i in 2003 to learn about non-violence education and organic farming. The calling to teach at a university was hard to ignore so Elena taught Conflict in the Asia-Pacific Region and Costumes and Cultures of South and Southeast Asia at UHM before becoming a full- time librarian. She has a background in Education, Biology and Environmental Studies, Asian Studies, and Library and Information Science.
